As an artist Johanne Morin was a late starter. She finished her first painting a few months short of her 40th birthday. Johanne was born and grew up in Qubec, Canada, dedicating herself to sports before opting for a more stable future. She studied Computer Science in college, receiving her Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Ottawa.

In June, 2000, Johanne moved with her husband to Texas in search of a warmer life. The change of climate inspired a change in calling as she rediscovered her long-lost love of Art. Since then Johanne has worked with in pastel painting, wood burning and wood sculpture and has won awards in each medium.

Artist's Statement

I usually approach my artwork as problem-solving. I decide what I'd like to accomplish, identify the constraints and plan how to make it work. I make quick sketches to decide on the composition, the color scheme and the motion. From there I let the piece guide me. I have always enjoyed learning, so I am constantly on the lookout for a new challenge in every piece of artwork.
